Salvia mellifera - Black Sage

Evergreen perennial to 3-6 ft, usually wider than tall. Fragrant green leaves, with white to pale blue flowers in summer. Native from the SF Bay Area through Baja. Flowers attract butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds. Seeds are a food source for quail and other native birds. Sun to part shade. Low water. Tolerates sand, clay, and serpentine soils. Hardy to 20º F.
